CEO of 2902 Media

n 2011, I was laid off from my corporate job at DHL in Houston, TX. I opened up a clothing and accessories boutique called B&B Gear with my best friend. Shortly after in 2012, my mother’s leg was amputated, and my brother convinced me to move to Fort Worth to take of her. Also, he was not happy with his management so he offered me the position to manage his career. So, I moved home to Fort Worth, TX and accepted the opportunity to spend valuable time with mother while managing my brother’s career.

While managing my brother, he also requested that I photograph and video him while on stage for branding and social media content. I realized after two years, I really enjoyed that aspect of the position. It no longer felt like a job and it was also very relaxing. In 2013, we had the opportunity to perform on a Disney resort for a week. During this experience. I met a guy by the name of Daniel Zapata (Dan). Dan was the videographer covering the events happening at the resort. Since my brother was hosting the various events, Dan would capture his every move. At the end of each night, he would present a video illustrating everything that was captured throughout the day and the video quality was amazing. His editing skill level was impeccable. All I kept saying to myself was, “I wish I could do that.” In my head, I knew he was using a $30,000 camera and there was no way I would be able to afford that anytime soon. Little did I know, that was not the case. Dan’s camera was $3,500 and was doing the same job as a more expensive camera.

At that point, I knew my dream could become a reality. Before we continue, let’s take a small journey back to my childhood to connect the pieces of who, what, when, where, why and how. Benny Boom, Hype Williams, and Professor X were three of the hottest music video directors in the 90’s that shot most of the hip hop videos. I thought what they were doing and accomplishing was amazing. It became my dream to do the same, but coming out of North Fort Worth, by way of Diamond Hill, I thought my goal was farfetched or not attainable. In my teen years, my dad would have me recording his singing group, The Singing Disciples of Fort Worth, TX not knowing this would be something I would do in the future. Parents always see characteristics in their children before others do and this is made evident in my journey today.

From the many opportunities, hands-on training, and the education needed to piece everything together, I found myself giving birth to 2902 Media. In doing this I found my purpose. As the scripture says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” My purpose is to serve people with the gift of my creative mind, a keen eye, and the touch of my hands to my camera in order to capture a memory that will last.

Having said this, God has blessed me to work with some incredible people to better my craft. My Brother Actor/Comedian Bone Hampton, my Sister Gospel Artist Ms. RaShona, Actress/Comedian Sheri Shepheard and Actor/Comedian Rodney Perry are a few of the people that have helped to set the foundation of my career.
My journey has been hard, but rewarding and it is far from over. I have done short films, music videos, and documentaries. My next endeavor will be to make major motion pictures! Stay tuned because there is more to come!
